No Hot Water - Gas

  • Check other gas appliances to see if gas service is available. If no gas is available to premises, contact your local gas supplier or change bottles if LPG.

  • Check if pilot light is on. If not, relight by following instructions on heater.

  • If you cannot relight pilot or see any other visible reason for a malfunction call Australian Hot Water on 13 21 13

  • For your own safety do not attempt to repair any part of the heater yourself.

No Hot Water - Electric

  • Check fuse or circuit-breaker for continuity. Replace fuse or reset circuit-breaker if required.

  • When turning on again notice if the meter turns (paying attention to times of limited use such as off-peak periods – consult your local electrical supply provider), you may see the meter spin faster, this would indicate the water is being heated again.

  • Leave switch on for about an hour and check a hot water tap closest to the cylinder. Upon running the tap for a short period you should feel the water beginning to heat.

  • If water remains cold and you see no other visible reason for a malfunction call Australian Hot Water on 13 21 13

  • For your own safety do not attempt to repair any part of the heater yourself.

No Hot Water - Gas & Electric

  • Check other hot water taps to see if the problem is limited to only one tap or area. Then check the cold water taps as well.

  • If hot water only is effected check for broken pipes or leaking cylinder (see section here on leaking cylinders).

  • If no water is evident at the property, check for the possibility of a frozen pipe (in colder areas &/or seasons) or consult your local water provider.

Hot Water Cylinder Leaking - Gas

  • Turn the gas off at the heater. A gas cock should be close to the heater and will require only a half a turn to shut it.

  • Quickly check the source of the leak. If it is coming from the TPR valve go to the section here related to that.

  • Turn the water stop cock off at the heater, this should stop or reduce dramatically the flow of water.

  • Call Australian Hot Water on 13 21 13

  • For your own safety do not attempt to repair any part of the heater yourself.

Hot Water Cylinder Leaking - Electric

  • Turn the electricity supply to the heater off. A switch should be located at a switch board on the premises marked water heater or similar.

Water Flowing from TPR valve - Gas

  • First, establish the water escape is greater than expected from normal operation. e.g. an amount of water will generally gently discharge from this valve when water is being heated, however the discharge should not be constant or all the time.

  • Gently raise the lever on the valve and gently lower the lever back in position. Do this two or three times to clear any obstacles.

  • If water flow still takes place turn the gas off at the heater. A gas cock should be close to the heater and will require only a half a turn to shut it.

  • Turn the water stop cock off at the heater, this should stop or reduce dramatically the flow of water.

  • Call Australian Hot Water on 13 21 13
